Winged Folk

Appearance

Winged folk can be from five feet to five and a half feet tall. Their build is average, neither overly slim like elves nor broad and muscular like dwarves. The bones of winged folks are hollow so that are light enough to fly. The wings of a winged folk are large and feathered, like an angel's. They have a total wingspan of fifteen feet. All winged folks have blue eyes and have blonde, curly hair. They have a vague elven look to them as their nose, ears, eyes, and cheeks are well proportioned, which gives them an attractive appearance. Their complexion is fair and they cannot grow beards. The lifespan of winged folk is not known as they are not seen very often.

Abilities

Winged folk are not especially strong and because their bones are hollow. They can be very fragile. Fire or a broken bone can seriously maim or kill a winged folk. Winged folk therefore do not fight to the death and avoid close combat whenever possible.

Winged folk are very nimble however, particularly when flying and they will frequently take to the air if startled or their life is in danger. Their vision and hearing is acute and a suddenly noise or movement can cause them to take wing. They dislike confining spaces such as caves because it is not possible to fly.

According to legend, they live in cloud cities high above the ground and come down to Ehritz to hunt. They prefer spears, javelins, short bows, and bolas as weapons. As noted, winged folk can fly unless their wings are damaged. An individual with a permanent wing injury is considered a cripple and almost always pitied.

Some winged folks can wield magic, but their form of magic is unlike magic of other races. Rather than intone, recite, or speak magic spells, they sing songs. It is unclear whether the lyrics or the melody or the interaction of the two create a magical effect.
