Gnomes

Appearance

Gnomes range from two to three feet tall. They look like small dwarves or dwarven children with beards. Their skin is fair and their hair is white. Their eyes are brown. They have wide foreheads, broad noses, and big ears. Gnomes do not cut their beards. Gnomes live to be about two hundred years.

Abilities

Gnomes are not particularly strong, smart, athletic, or dexterous. In fact, compared to humans, they are much weaker (because of their size) and run more slowly. They are a friendly race and will come to the aid of any creature in need, unless you've offended or annoyed them.

They love the outdoors and like to live either underground or in natural settings, such as a forest, a meadow, or a garden. Some like to tinker and they find the mechanical devices, like a mill or a clock, fascinating. Magic is another passion for gnomes, particularly rituals and alchemy.

Gnomes are not aggressive normally and do not like to fight. However, when forced to defend themselves, gnomes prefer short bows, slings, and throwing daggers. They also like to employ traps when possible. Gnomish homes have many traps built into them, which can ward off the unwelcome.
